MAMA na DADA Micro-Credit Program

Microcredit is the extension of very small loans to individuals or groups with little or no income who are not able to qualify for traditional bank loans. It has proven an effective and popular measure in the ongoing struggle against poverty, enabling those who have a strong interest in generating income to use their own knowledge and skills to grow a small business that can generate income to sustain their families and/or communities.Of particular importance to the program is savings - as an end in itself, and as the basis and guarantee for future loans.  Sustainability and non-dependence on external resources are the key to the growth of microcredit programs, with the local conditions, needs, and resources forming the basis of the project proposals.

Micro Credit Meeting

In the spring of 2006, the concept of microcredit savings and lending was introduced by Mama na Dada to the Kunya Village community.  Several orientation meetings were held and the response was enthusiastic and committed.  With the seed money raised by international volunteers, the Mama na Dada Micro Credit program has begun an exciting new program which will benefit not only the women and children we currently serve, but the entire extended community.
